Alyssa Hernandez was Sommer Baker’s Advanced English 2 student in 2012 at Memorial High School. Alyssa and Sommer became close while Alyssa was in Sommer’s class and while she was involved as a junior class officer. Alyssa's family faced a challenging period, leaving her without much support for her extracurricular activities. Sommer stepped in offering both academic and extracurricular support to Alyssa in an effort to bridge the gaps at home. This experience opened Sommer's eyes to the broader need for support and encouragement among students facing similar struggles. She realized the profound impact such support could have on a student's development and trajectory in the future.
In 2024, Sommer reached the 20-year milestone of teaching at Memorial High School and decided it was time to start a non-profit organization to reach more students and get more people involved in making a difference in the lives of teenagers in Oklahoma.
Alyssa is now a mechanical engineer at Toyota's North American Headquarters in Dallas, TX. Her passion for cars inspired the name of our organization "Full Throttle Forward." Just as cars need regular maintenance and care to perform at their best, students also require similar care and attention to thrive. Our mission is to help propel students into their futures with love, care, and attention, inspiring them to reach their fullest potential.

"The ACT Test day food was super helpful because everyone loved the snacks and drinks. It made the ACT test day more enjoyable. I felt a lot less pressure while taking the test because the food and teachers made it feel like an exciting opportunity rather than a stressful requirement."
"I enjoy the field trips because I get to go to different places with my classmates and I enjoy learning about new places. I love getting to make so many fun memories with my friends. I am very grateful that we get the opportunity to go on these field trips and experience new things."
"The Oilers Hockey Game field trip was such an amazing time with friends. I loved how everyone was super helpful and welcoming. My favorite part about the field trip was the game itself. I have never enjoyed watching hockey until the experience that day. It has changed my perspective on hockey. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to go see the Oilers Hockey game."
Our organization’s goal is to raise money to fund special incentives and programs for students to feel valued in high school as well as to help propel them into their future with love, care, and attention to inspire them to reach their full potential.
